Melissa loves helping anyone who visits, seeking advice or help in caring for a loved one who has challenges with their memory.
She says, "The residents are like my family. I treat them like they are my grand parents. I help the staff understand that to care for them we have to love them, understand their stories and learn about them. We try to create a family environment rather than a clinical environment. I believe in making their last chapter, the best in their book." Concerning families, Melissa states that, "Their family is as important as the resident because they are part of their story. It is important to understand the family's expectations. I have built close relationships with family members. Their family has become like my family. Some family members have continued to be part of our extended family even after their parents have left us. They have volunteered for trips and parties to continue to be involved."
Melissa teaches and trains our staff. She draws on their strengths. She tells us that, "Our staff work really well together as a team and draw from each other's strengths to develop new skills. They put the resident first. Every staff member cares for every resident not just their assigned residents. We believe that we have the best of the best.
